Our story

A family butchery since 1979.

Three generations on Zakynthos, still cutting by hand, still choosing every product on the shelf ourselves.

A taste of Zakynthos

Built around the counter, never around the trend.

Piperis began in 1979 with one butcher, one counter and a simple rule: only sell what you'd serve at your own table. Nearly five decades later, that rule still decides what goes on our shelves — from the cuts we age ourselves to the small-producer olive oil we keep next to the till.

Today the second and third generations of the family run two shops on the island — a full supermarket in Ampelokipoi and a boutique butchery and delicatessen in Sarakinado.

Timeline

From one counter to two homes.

  1. 1979

    The first counter

Piperis opens as a single butcher's shop on Zakynthos, built on knife skill, daily deliveries and a small, loyal neighbourhood.

  2. 1990s

    A delicatessen joins the counter

We expand into cured meats, cheeses and pantry staples, sourcing from small Greek producers we still work with today.

  3. 2010s

    Second generation, second shop

The Ampelokipoi store opens as a full supermarket built around the butchery counter — the same craft, a wider basket.

  4. Today

    Boutique butchery in Sarakinado

Our Sarakinado shop becomes a focused boutique butchery and deli with gluten-free shelves and a carefully chosen freezer.
